As you may have seen all over socials last week, some of the Ortus Talent team had the exciting opportunity to attend Web Summit 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal. Other than some rather late nights, which we’ll tell you about under a different blog title, we had the pleasure of attending talks done by inspiring marketing, tech and money experts.
The first talk we had the pleasure of attending was ‘How To Market Yourself Online’ with Alex Zaccaria and Julie Smith. They spoke at length about how confident marketing is essential if you want to build your online presence, especially when traversing multiple platforms.
One of the key things they spoke about was utilising all of the tools available to you, and using social media as a game. Alex and Julia agreed that right now, TikTok has the highest rate of discovery out of all social media platforms, but Instagram is the key to maintaining that constant engagement with your followers. So how do you drive TikTok followers to your Instagram?
Luckily, Alex Zaccaria had the perfect answer… Linktree!
Being the Co-founder and CEO of Linktree, Alex was able to share some incredible insights with us about how the key to transferrable followings is giving your viewers something to do, a call to action if you will. With a user base of over 20 million*, Linktree is the first of its kind linking platform. The platform gives you the opportunity to centralise any and all important links into one place, driving users to products, other platforms or contact options for your brand.
Putting your Linktree in your TikTok bio and using quotes in your caption like “check out our bio” or “click the link in our bio to find out more” gives your followers access to an unlimited amount of links to your Instagram, LinkedIn, brand new book… Whatever your heart desires. Being able to link your platforms and encourage your following from one to the other is a key part of what Julie and Alex spoke about. Having flexibility between platforms and the comfort of knowing your community spans all of them is essential to learning to market yourself online.
At the other end of the summit, David Meltzer of David Meltzer Enterprises spoke about why personal branding is so essential – and how to make sure you get it right. His opening statement was possibly the most powerful opening statement we heard over the whole summit. “A lot of people believe authenticity is other people's perception of you or your solution”, what a sentence!
David talked at length about how important it is to focus on your own essence. He encouraged marketers to not worry about what they lack but to actively be concerned in showing off what their company, brand or person does possess.
With how quickly social media is moving, you are statistically more likely to succeed in the digital space than ever before. The most important investment you can make in 2023 is in yourself, because as David wisely worded it “ if you aren’t investing in yourself, what else is worth investing in?”.
Your brand is your neighbourhood, and your followers are your community. The only thing your community is ever going to appreciate from you is authenticity. Admitting your weaknesses, parading your positives and ensuring your content reflects that, for better or for worse, we aren’t perfectly oiled marketing machines is the key to whole world becoming your stage.
